The ywca early care and learning center in rock springs provides quality, dependable childcare to an average of one hundred children per day from birth to age ten. The original center opened in 1977. In 2009, a separate infant and toddler center was built. Children learn from a developmentally appropriate curriculum while parents are able to work or go to school. The centers focus on school readiness and age-appropriate experiences to prepare the children for their future. The ywca provides financial assistance to those parents whose income qualifies and would not otherwise be able to afford quality childcare. The ywca hosts a summer day camp for school-aged children. Over the duration of the summer, approximately thirty children attended the program allowing parents to continue working or attending school, knowing their children were in a safe, nurturing environment and participating in age-appropriate activities. the mission of the sweetwater county family justice center is to lead our community in healing itself from the effect of family violence by establishing an environment where committed professionals work collaboratively using leading edge approaches, technology and techniques to provide integrated, comprehensive services to people where and when they need help. Partner agencies include the rock springs and green river police departments, the department of family services, the sweetwater county attorney's office, the sweetwater county sheriff's office, wyoming highway patrol, wyoming workforce services, memorial hospital of sweetwater county, southwest counseling services and legal aid of wyoming. These agencies combine to offer wrap-around services for clients who are experiencing any type of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking, child sexual abuse, human trafficking, dating violence, child abuse or neglect and elder abuse or neglect. The program has two offices, one located in rock springs and one in green river, and a safe house that provides safe, temporary shelter for victims in need. The safe house is pet friendly, allowing victims to bring in their dog/cat to ensure the animal's safety as well. The program provides a twenty-four hour crisis line and staff advocates that are available to victims of these crimes in and around sweetwater county. Advocates take crisis calls by phone or may respond to the hospital, law enforcement agencies or other county agencies to provide immediate crisis intervention services. Advocates also respond to calls from local law enforcement requesting an advocate to respond to domestic violence victims' homes after an arrest has been made. Victims are able to have their questions answered and services offered immediately. Advocates may also work with children who are present and have witnessed violence in their home. The program provided 13,563 services to 712 unduplicated service receivers in 2016. There were 1,085 crisis calls and 828 shelter days. The fjc provided 458 transports to service receivers. One hundred seventy-three forensic interviews and 139 protections orders were completed at the fjc. the ywca financial empowerment program just finished its second year and is already seeing an increased interest in the classes. The program has determined that the best avenues for reaching the public is through established groups or agencies. The program has five agencies that now regularly contact the ywca to schedule classes for their clients. This has resulted in an increase in individuals served by the program. During the 2016-2017 fiscal year the program provided classes for 87 people. In addition, the program has a regular program at the ywca summer day camp called "money smart kids and does a shortened afternoon presentation each year at the public library youth program.
