To use its funds and property exclusively for carrying out, promoting and advancing the study of neuro-muscular anomalies of the eyes in all their aspects.

To assist in the training and education of orthoptic students, to establish minimum standards for orthoptic training centers and preceptorships, to provide for examinations of orthoptic students to determine proficiency in orthoptics and to award certification of competency to students who pass the exam, to encourage continuing education of certified orthoptists, to establish minimum standards for the professional and ethical conduct of certified orthoptists, and to provide guidance to the american association of certified orthoptists.
