The primary exempt purpose of the american academy of health physics is to provide an effective means for active certified health physicists to participate in and contribute to the certification program, evaluate and advance the profession of health physics. The academy publishes a newsletter entitled the chp newsletter. All active members receive a copy.

The organization helps determine the professional standards for certified health physicists and conducts examinations for certification. the chp newsletter and related conferences enhance communication among members and discussion of the members' common interests.
