The library serves as an anchor for community and civic life, providing opportunities for life-long learning, and encouraging life-enrichment and cultural engagement at the personal and social level for all community members.

The wissahickon valley public library (wvpl) had many program accomplishments during the 2017-2018 fiscal year. 17,474 users (5% increase) visited the library 178,164 times (3% increase) to borrow books, attend educational programs, study, read, attend meetings and to use our computers. Patrons borrowed 34,972 electronic items including ebooks, emagazines and eaudio books and electronic use is increasing. The library circulated 290,112 print books, dvd's, videogames, audio books and museum passes at the main library in blue bell and at the ambler branch. Overall circulation was up by 4%. Our library now provides passes for 27 local museums. The wissahickon valley public library planned and facilitated 1,280 educational and entertainment events (2% increase) at which 23,735 people attended (6% increase). The library hosted 3 nationally known author events including kathleen barber, lisa see and elin hilderbrand. We continue to provide esl conversation groups that meet 5 times a week at both libraries helping non-native speakers to practice their english and an esl homework help program that is held 2 days per week. Wvpl also answered 18,570 (4% increase) questions for users. Our patrons worked on our computers 8,786 times and used our wireless internet access 10,187 times (2% increase). Wvpl also won 5 grants totaling $19,000. They were used towards the renovation of wvpl's ambler branch, updating our behavior health book collection and 15 stem programs for kids during the summer.
