The organization began in 1928 for the purpose of promoting the unique qualities of hardwood grown and produced in the appalachian region of the united states. Educational programs to support sound forestry practices, protection of the environment and the use of appalachian hardwoods in manufacturing are focused activities. Membership in the organization is open to producers, distributors, suppliers, foresters and interested consumers.
