Wood library is a free association library chartered to serve the greater canandaigua area. As a member of the four county 42 member library pioneer library system, it offers free services to the residents of ontario, wayne, livingston, and wyoming counties in western ny. Beginning in november 2010, wood library began phase one of a $4 million capital project, the "wood library new chapter campaign," a major renovation of the library's historic building. Phase two, which was completed in january 2014, included the construction of a 5,080 square foot addition. Project funding for the addition was secured in may 2013 and phase two began shortly thereafter. Continued on schedule oin 2014, wood library was visited 139,565 times and circulated 223,521 items (4% increase). To meet the needs of patrons throughout the pioneer library system, wood library loaned 13,529 of its books, magazines, dvds, computer games, music cds, and audio-books to other libraries. To meet the needs of its own patrons, wood library borrowed 26,832 items from the 41 libraries of the system. The library saw an increase in downloads of audiobooks and ebooks in 2014 with patrons borrowing them 14,123 times (27% increase). During this same year, library staff answered 5,160 (19% increase) reference questions. Wood library provides programs for people of all ages. 17,436 people attended 1,268 programs in 2014. 3,963 youngsters enjoyed 231 early literacy programs and 1,446 adults participated in 102 digital literacy courses. For children, the programs offered included crafts programs, story times for preschoolers, puppet and finger play activities for 2 year olds, and lap-sit programs for toddlers and their caregivers. Programs for older children and adults included film series, support groups, book reviews, book discussions, author talks and signings, and various educational lectures. Adults who attended digital literacy classes learned more about online safety, popular websites, computer basics, and were also invited to bring in their own digital device during open tech hours to have their questions answered. In 2014, 20,828 login sessions were recorded for the library's 20 public computers. Patrons rely on the library's internet access to conduct research, write reports and resumes, pay bills, apply for jobs, make airline and hotel reservations, create email accounts and check email, take online courses, get directions and make a variety of purchases. Wood offers free wi-fi for the convenience of travelers and businesspersons. This service was accessed over 8,679 times in 2014 (50% increase). Wood library has a certified notary public on staff. It also offers fax and copier services. Patrons no longer have to go to the reference desk to pay for and pick up their computer printouts. Instead, they log in to a dedicated computer terminal, pay for their documents right at the print station, and then are able to print. Another addition was a self-checkout station that allows patrons to skip the lines and quickly check out materials with a library card. Wood library provides public meeting spaces for community groups and organizations. The library's 3 meeting spaces allowed for multiple groups to reserve 454 times in 2014. Examples of those using the facility include support groups, book groups, political parties, scouting organizations, youth sports organizations, the dar, tenants groups and homeowners associations, literacy volunteers and teacher tutors, homeschooling groups, writers' groups, gamers, and crafters. The aarp offers driver safety classes throughout the year and tax aide help during tax season which served 479 individuals in 2014. The office for the aging co-sponsors introductory computer classes for individuals over 60. Wood library's mission is to provide exceptional public library service.
