Provide educational and skill training for low income youth; develop opportunites for employment; stablize neighborhoods by enfranchising youth through employment and training activities; divert high risk youth in meaningful training opportunities, provide counseling and close supervision; and foster strong self esteem and self reliance.

Causes

Programs

The career exploration program is a 6 to 9 month stipended program that serves 16-24 year old boston residents who lack a high school diploma and are interested in hands-on vocational experience. Students are engaged each week in math, science, english and language arts instruction, community service activities and field work in building trades like landscaping, painting, carpenty and property maintenance. The pre-apprentice program is a 12 week stipended program that serves 18 -24 year old boston residents with a high school diploma or g. E. D. And clean drug screen who want careers in the building trades. Students are trained to received stackable credentials and industry recognized certifications, hands-on construction experience and life skills and job readiness coaching in order to get accepted into various, local unions and earn living wages. The designery is an 8 - 10 week stipended out-of-school time enrichment program for high school juniors and seniors who are college bound and interested in studying some facet of engineering or design. Students learn technical terms, concepts and basic skills in the field and are then asked to solve a design problem for a local businesses or non-profits using that knowledge and culminating in a product that is showcased at the end of the session. Ubuild is a program designed to engage youthbuild boston's corporate partners and supporters in service projects that bring together staff and volunteers from both organizations to benefit local sites in need of carpentry, landscaping or painting expertise. Students and staff from ybb come together 6 to 10 times a year to lend their energy and skillsets to these projects as marketing and public relations vehicles to showcase the good work of our agency.
