The association of railway museums - was organized and incorporated under the laws of the state of illinois for the purpose of promoting interests common to those organizations engaged in the preservation of railway equipment for educational purposes. The association accomplishes its goals by promoting standards for the preservation and interpretation of artifacts and related documents in the public interest.

The association publishes a quarterly newsletter, promulgates recommended practices for railway museums, distributes reprints of historical documents necessary for effective preservation and interpretation, and sponsors regional and international meetings to facilitate communication among member institutions.
