Mission

The purpose of the zen center of denver is to foster the teaching of zen to provide greater harmony and peace in ones own life and that of others.

Programs

Construction was started on a new building for zen center of denver at 1856 south columbine street. When completed, the building will facilitate the mission of zen center by providing a permanent contemplative space for daily meditation practice where peace and harmony abound. A special fundraising campaign was initiated to generate funds to be used for the construction, partly supported by the colorado gives foundation. zazenkai and sesshin are retreats open to the publice where like-minded practitioners can do zazen or meditation in order to clarify and deepen their mind. Senior students lead the retreats, and a meeting with the teacher is available. Zazenkai is a day retreat, usually held at different locations with an average attendance of 16. It is offered almost every month. Sesshin is a week long retreat this is normally available one to two times per year. 36 people attended last year. daily meditation practice: zazen, a meditative practice fundamental to the practice of zen is offered almost every day. It is offered four days of the week in the mornings for one hour. It is also offered for two hour lengths on two evenings of the week and on a weekly basis on sunday. These are one to two hour meditations that provide one with the opportunity to deepen ones practice of zazen with a community of like-minded practitioners. Senior students lead the practices, and one can meet with a teacher at these times to enquire about the practice of zazen. Sittings are open to the public. The number of paricipants vaires from 6 to 20 per sitting.
