Youth development: our ymca is committed to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. We believe that all kids deserve the opportunity to discover who they are and what they can achieve. That's why we help young people cultivate the values, skills and relationships that lead to positive behaviors, better health and educational achievement. Our ymca programs, such as summer day camp, swim lessons, aquatics safety programs, daycare, preschool, 4k programs, before and after school programs, dance, gymnastics, cheerleading, sports classes, sports leagues and enrichment classes offer a range of experiences that enrich cognitive, social, physical and emotional growth. As a result, 19,500 youth in our community benefited from ymca programs. In 2017, we provided $81,115 in financial assistance to individuals who otherwise may not have been able to afford to participate. healthy living: the y is a leading voice on health and well-being. We bring families closer together, encourage good health and foster connections through family wellness programming, group exercise classes for adults and families, nutritional counselling and programs for individuals with health issues including parkinson's, arthritis and type 2 diabetes. As a result, 80,000 people in our community are receiving the support, guidance and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind and body. This is particularly important as our nation struggles with an obesity crisis, families struggle with work/life balance and individuals search for personal fulfillment. The y provides a supportive community for active older adults with wellness programming and events devoted to helping seniors achieving a greater well-being. Our programs are accessible, affordable and open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities and income levels. In 2017, we provided $138,661 in financial assistance to people who otherwise may not have been able to afford to participate. social responsibility: our ymca believes in giving back and supporting our neighbors. We have been listening and responding to our community's most critical needs for more than 120 years. We develop skills through education and training and provide opportunities for people to give back and enrich our community through volunteering, mentoring, tutoring, fundraising and coaching. Participants and volunteers engage in activities that strengthen our community and pave the way for future generations to thrive. The y provides adaptive programs that serve community members with cognitive and/or physical disabilities offering wellness and enrichment classes with adaptive equipment and training. These programs provide a range of experiences that enrich social-emotional, cognitive and physical growth. In partnership with the armed services ymca and the department of defense, our y is proud to offer memberships and respite child care service to eligible military families and personnel to give them extra support during deployment. In 2017, 218 service men, women and their families participated in this program.
