During the 2016-17 season, more than 13,000 visitors came to the rink for public skating, one of many programs we offer or to rent ice time. The rink offered public skating four times each weekend, every time the schools had a day off, and on all holidays, including new year's eve. The numbers ranged from 50-350 people of all ages for each public skate. The programs offered were: learn to skate for all ages, mommy, daddy and me for toddlers, beginner hockey and a youth hockey league. There were two men's leagues with more than 20 teams. In addition, the rink had sold out ice time to user groups from all over the southtowns. For open skate and tournaments, skaters came from many u. S. Cities, canadian provinces, and other countries. The 2016-17 skater season opened on october 10 and closed on march 19. (continued on schedule o)ice times were booked at near 95% capacity during the season with a diverse mix of programming and patrons. An estimated 130,000 skaters utilized the rink this past ice season. Public skating sessions remain one of the most popular activities at the rink. Weekend sessions average 250 skaters, mostly teenagers, and a total of 13,124 attended over the season from all over wny. Youth hockey teams, including aurora ice, hamburg hawks boys and girls teams, buffalo regals, lancaster girls hs, and southtown stars rent ice time. Every age group and ability, from toddlers to teenagers and adults, have skated in the learn-to-skate, hockey or open skate sessions. The summer programs include floor hockey and roller skating, pickleball and the ea music festival.
