The BackYard Bash began as a party in 1987. In 1992, because cost became unaffordable to organizers and the group did not care to personally gain from the event, the "Bash" became a charity benefit; we formed a corporation and named it BackYard Benefits, Inc.. The "Dirty Dozen" party goers had to transform themselves into altruists - our group is extremely diverse - see Members. Three members who have moved, came back to assist in hosting BackYard Bash and Red Hot Strawberry Ball: Tim Kenefick & wife Chris (Michigan), John Eckrich (South Carolina), Mark Kogan and wife Jennifer (Philadelphia), and also a volunteer staff member (Florida). BackYard Benefits, Inc. became a Federal 501 (C) (3) Non-Profit Charitable Organization in 1995. Donations are tax deductible on one's federal tax return, but the requested donation for the ticket is not, as the deemed value is greater than the requested donation.
