The government affairs department concentrated its efforts on these areas: private equity tax policy; dodd-frank act rulemaking and implementation; and other regulatory issues in the united states and around the world. It continued to oppose legislation to increase taxes on carried interest and enterprise value. It also continued to support maintaining full interest deductibility and preserving pass-through taxation. In addition, the aic remained very active on regulatory issues. The government affairs department expanded the council's portfolio company initiative, which facilitated visits between members of congress and the ceos of successful private equity backed companies. the public affairs department produces content and public awareness campaigns to communicate the benefits of the private equity industry to stakeholders. The team maintains working relationships with financial reporters and responds to media requests, and is responsible for updates on the aic's website and social media channels. the member services department built upon past successes and continued the development of our offerings for members. Aside from the other benefits of membership, the council produced over 25 member events or calls during 2016. These ranged from educational seminars to networking events to committee activities.
