Zimele usa confronts the root causes of poverty and removes the barriers to self-sufficiency by working with one woman and one community at a time until we reach all of south africa, through the empowerment of these women with the skills, resources, and support networks to start businesses and social service projects to sustain not only themselves, but their families and communities.

For the 2014 gala we sold full priced tickets, volunteer tickets at cost, we found sponsors to support this specific event, we collected donated items and donated services that were auctioned at the gala. We provided the venue, food, beverages and entertainment to host this event. The dolls program consists of purchasing dolls from south africa at a fair trade price. The dolls are sold in the united states. The purchased dolls are either collected by the purchaser in the united states or donated by the purchaser to an orphan in south africa. This program runs all year. It is promoted at other zimele fundraisers throughout the year. The 5k run happens once a year in the fall. Its main purpose is to create awareness of the current needs in the kwazulu-natal region of south africa. Unfortuntely it has been a break even event or even a loss in the past. In the future it may be discontiuned due to lack of support.
