Programs

Youth development: nurturing the potential of every child and teen. The kettle moraine ymca believes in youth development and is dedicated to nurturing the potential of every child and teen. At the y, children and teens learn values and positive behaviors, explore their unique talents and interests, and realize their potential. That makes for confident kids today and contributing and engaged adults tomorrow. The y believes the values and skills learned early on are the vital building blocks for life. Because of the y, more young people are taking a greater interest in learning and making smarter choices. Youth development at the y includes: leadership development programs (such as girl's night out, y key leaders club, and teen nights), youth civic engagement (such as youth in government), competitive sports, recreation activities, youth swim lessons, day camp and specialty camp programs. In 2016-2017, the kettle moraine y impacted the lives of over 12,000 children through its youth development programs. The y child care served 1,039 infant through school-aged children. This includes our full time child care program at five locations, preschool education, before and after school care for all local schools, summer youth care at two locations and day camp participants. Child care sites are in y branches, schools, churches and other non-ymca locations. healthy living: improving the nation's health and well-being. The kettle moraine y is a leading voice on improving the nation's health and well-being. Being healthy means more than simply being physically active. It's about maintaining a balanced spirit, mind and body. The y is a place where you can work toward that balance by challenging yourself to learn a new skill or hobby, fostering connections with friends through our lifelong learning programs, or bringing your loved ones closer together through our many family-centered activities. At the y, it's not about the activity you choose as much as it is about the benefits of living healthier on the inside as well as the outside. As a result, 27,714 members are receiving the support, guidance, and resources they need to achieve greater health in spirit, mind, and body. Specific core programs that promote healthy living at the y include: group fitness classes, water activities (swim lessons, water safety lessons, water fitness classes), youth fitness, family activities, open gym and swim times, active older adult programs and activities, wellness & nutrition coaching, and personal training. The y is also engaged in preventative health measures including programs that are helping people face the growing problem of diabetes (y diabetes prevention program). In addition, the y offers a small group program for adult cancer survivors (livestrong at the y) as well as an exercise program for those suffering with parkinson's disease. Our programs are accessible, affordable, and open to all faiths, backgrounds, abilities, and income levels. In 2016-2017 we provided $444,706 in membership and program fee reduction to people who otherwise would have faced economic carriers to participate social responsibility: giving back and providing support to our neighbors and advancing equity and inclusion. The kettle moraine ymca believes in giving back to the community. The generosity of others is at the core of the y's existence as a nonprofit. It is only through the support of our hundreds of volunteers and public and private donors that we are able to support and given back to the communities we engage. Specific programs that build social responsibility are: financial support, program and policy volunteers, and advocacy and public policy. In 2016-2017, 207 volunteers recorded a total of 4,035 hours serving on boards and committees, coaching youth sports, help to organize and lead events that support our community, or raising funds to ensure every child, adult and family have an opportunity to participant in y programs.
