Counseling services are provided by a professional counselor four days a week in lancaster, pennsylvania. This service furthers our exempt purposes because it provides professional counseling in spanish for people who would not otherwise be able to afford counseling and who would find it difficult to find counseling in spanish in other places. The food bank receives food from cap and the central pennsylvania food bank. This furthers our exempt purposes by providing a location and making the food available to those in need. English classes for basic, intermediate and advanced levels are offered each week on monday, wednesday and thursday. It is individualized instruction provided by experienced teachers according to the needs of the student. Students are adults for whom english is a second language and who desire to improve their english skills in order to advance their opportunities for jobs and/or further education. "constructores" is a youth club organized and led by volunteers. They provide a mixture of fun activities, socialization, and education to teach young people how to make positive decisions in life, and to stay away from drugs and alcohol. It furthers our exempt purposes by providing youth with an alternative to gang activity and giving them opportunities for positive character development. The music academy offers lessons in piano, guitar, drums and bass with a skilled music teacher. Lessons are offered four days a week, three to four hours each day. This furthers our exempt purposes by making affordable music lessons available to students for whom music is an important outlet and means of expression. The radio program "hablemos en claro" is broadcast in spanish every monday at 11:00 a. M. On station wlch 91. 3 fm also known as radio centro. Alberto hernndez produces the program which covers topics pertaining to everyday life, such as family dynamics, health, finances, etc. It furthers the exempt purposes of the alpha and omega community center by reaching the hispanic population of lancaster with topics that help them to manage daily life. Computer classes are offered to people who have little or no computer knowledge to help them to develop skills that are useful in jobs and careers and will help them to advance. It is free of charge and provides supervised computer and internet access for those who cannot afford a computer or internet service at home. Workshops are offered in spanish and free of charge periodically through the year on a range of topics. Professionals in the topic lead the workshops.
