Membership/program: the y helps people understand and improve their health through membership and program options. The y offers a variety of membership options to meet the needs of individuals and families in our community. The y is commited to serving people regardless of their age, sex, race, religion or income level. The y recognizes the need to serve all members of the community, regardless of their ability to pay the full cost of membership or program fees. Financial assistance is available for those who demonstrate financial need based upon household income and number of dependents. Our six wellness centers provide a variety of group fitness classes along with fitness equipment including cardio equipment, and full line of strength training, and free weights. childcare/camp: the y nurtures the potential of every child through our preschool, afterschool, summer day camps, and holiday camps for children up thru age 12. Our preschool program focuses on building developmentally appropriate skills and school readiness, including pre-literacy skills. Our comprehensive school age program focuses on educational attainment, social skills and life skills development, cultural enrichment and awareness, community service, recreational fitness activities and resistance skills training. We also provide an inclusive day camp for special needs children during the summer. All of our programs are licensed by the mississippi department of health. The y also participates in the central mississippi planning and development districts childcare certificate program. aop: the y nurtures the potential of every teen through our aop programs. Helping youth who have been in trouble development positive life skills in order to become productive members of our community is the goal of our adolescent offender programs (aop). Aop works with youth between the ages of 12-17 who need extra support and attention in order to make positive life choices. The goals of aop are the (1) increase school attendance and academic attainment, (2) increase employment skills, (3) increase interpersonal skills and build self-esteem, and (4) keep youth from becoming further involved with the criminal justice system.
