Although reimbursement for services rendered is critical to the operation and stability of baptist memorial hospital-golden triangle, inc. , it is recognized that not all individuals possess the ability to purchase essential medical services, and further, that our mission is to serve the community with respect to providing health care services and healthier education. (see continuation at schedule o, pg 69)therefore, in keeping with its commitment to serve all members of its community, baptist memorial hospital-golden triangle provides the following:--free care and/or subsidized care where the need and/or an individual's inability to pay coexist,--care provided to persons covered by governmental programs at below cost, and--health activities and programs to support the communitythese activities include wellness programs, community education programs, special programs for the elderly, handicapped, medically underserved, and a variety of broad community support activities. Baptist memorial hospital-golden triangle serviced 9,310 inpatients, and provided more than 119,754 outpatient services during the fiscal year ending september 30, 2017. During the year ending september 30, 2017, baptist memorial hospital-golden triangle program services produced the following results:--the skilled nursing department had 39,087 patient visits at a cost of $13,728,082. --the laboratory department performed 440,193 procedures at a cost of $5,715,244. --the radiology department performed 126,231 procedures at a cost of $13,782,429. --the emergency room had 61,967 patient visits at a cost of $5,856,505. Baptist memorial hospital-golden triangle provides care to persons covered by governmental programs from which the hospital receives at less than market value reimbursement. Recognizing its mission to the community, services are provided to both medicare and medicaid patients. To the extent reimbursement is below cost, baptist memorial hospital-golden triangle recognizes these amounts as charity care in meeting its mission to the entire community. During the year ending september 30, 2017, the unreimbursed value of providing care to these patients was $387,356,408. Charity care is also provided through many reduced price services and free programs offered throughout the year based upon activities and services which baptist memorial hospital-golden triangle believes will serve a bona fide community health need. Baptist memorial hospital-golden triangle has provided a number of services in the community such as:--bone density screenings--diabetes support group--cancer support group--free kidney screenings--free flu shot event for the community (gave out more than 1,200 vaccinations)--free bone density screenings for the community--free diabetes screenings--free monthly psa screenings for men over 40--back to school health fair (stressing backpack safety)--free blood pressure checks and screenings at area businesses--quarterly blood drives--free sports physicals for area athletes--speakers for various events--free baby fair including labor and delivery/tour --relay for life-american cancer society (lowndes and oktibbeha counties)--other acs events such as boots and bling--breast cancer awareness kick-off - pink lemonade and cookies reception--pink dog walk on msu campus for breast cancer awareness--free community screenings in underserved areas such as hamilton, brooksville and crawford, ms. --free community education programs addressing such issues as: healthy eating, holiday depression, alzhemier's disease, colon cancer, skin cancer, bph, domestic violencebaptist memorial hospital-golden triangle feels that its people are its most valuable asset.
