Alliance For A Sustainable Amazon

Mission

The Alliance for a Sustainable Amazon (ASA) is a U.S.-based 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that is active in the southeastern Peruvian Amazon. Our mission is to conserve biodiversity and promote the sustainable use of Amazonian natural resources for the benefit of all those who live in and depend on the rainforest. Southeastern Peru is among the most biodiverse places on Earth and boasts a large number of expansive protected areas that shelter more species of plants and animals than almost anywhere else. However, widespread, uncontrolled resource extraction and climate change are presenting ever greater threats to the long-term health of the region?s rainforest ecosystem. Our research, reforestation, and education projects aim to document southeastern Peru?s plant and animal species and monitor their populations in the face of ongoing environmental change, restore degraded forests by building local capacity, and inspire the next generation of community and conservation leaders in the Amazon.
