Willowtail springs nature preserve and education center was organized to conserve, expand and improve the existing 60 acres of willowtail springs, its buildings and its diverse and rich eco systems; to support and encourage those who seek to conserve, protect, and renew nature; to promote education through the arts and sciences; and to provide a protected environment, allowing those practitioners to pursue their vision through exploration, reflection, research, collaboration and creative talents. Of growing importance is the community "giveback" which is part of this residency program. This involves classes, presentations, demonstrations, lectures, exhibitions, workshops and lectures which theresidents share with the community.

Environment

In 2017, we increased the number of weeks of residency to 15. We offered more community events as well, such as the addition of classes, workshops and collaborative residencies. We held a fundraiser/celebration of 5 years as a nonprofit, with artists, dancers and an amazing 275 guests who wondered the premises and the facilities. This was followed by our first large exhibition at the durango art center with 23 of willowtail's past residents.
