The trust works closely with private landowners and local, state and federal agencies to protect arizona's landscapes, working ranches, water and wildlife habitat.

Environment , Land Resources Conservation

In fy2017, arizona land and water trust continued to protect biologically sensitive areas and working landscapes, produced a number of outreach and education community workshops on land and water protection options, and provided technical assistance on conservation, land use and policy-related issues. Among our most significant accomplishments were the protection of nearly 100 acres of important ranchland, farmland, and critical wildlife habitat in the sulphur springs valley region in cochise county, along with nearly 300 acres protected in elgin, south of tucson. The trust also continues to implement water lease agreements with willing landowners along the gila and san pedro rivers as part of our innovative desert rivers program, securing over 2,300 acre-feet for the environment to date, and we are currently exploring opportunities in the santa cruz river. The arizona land and water trust has permanently and directly protected nearly 50,000 acres to date with willing landowners and over 500,000 acres as a result of our policy work in land and water planning, habitat conservation and wildlife corridor mapping. Our conservation efforts and partnerships have leveraged more than $315,000,000 over the life of the organization for land and water conservation.
