Yukon River Inter-tribal Watershed Council

Mission

The council's mission is to initiate and continue the clean-up and preservation of the watershed for the protection of current and future generations of indigenous peoples and for the continuation of the traditional native way of life. The council's support is derived primarily from governmental grants and private foundation contributions.

Programs

Program services include: - technical assistance: provides technical assistance to communities and indigenouspeoples in the yukon river watershed. - environmental education: provides culturally appropriate environmental educationcurriculum to youth through school and community programming, and raises communityawareness of the issues that affect the watershed. - assessment, monitoring and mapping assess the health of the watershed from themouth to the headwaters. - advocacy includes efforts to clean contaminated sites and prevent future contamination of the watershed. - solid and hazardous waste and sewage provide information and key support to develop and implement comprehensive wastewater, sewage, solid and hazardous waste systems and plans, leading to affordable and appropriate improvements.
