This year, the 22nd annual meeting was held in charlotte, nc. This three-day event featured more than 25 hours of cutting-edge sessions, a keynote presentation by the amp 2016 award for excellence recipient, more than 447 posters, 229 exhibitors, and countless opportunities to interact directly with colleagues. There were 2,029 registrants and 108 speakers. Amp puts on a molecular course for community pathologists called the molecular pathology outreach course - amplicons: a practical molecular toolkit and case studies. Since new models of medical practice are evolving with increasing attention to the molecular pathology of diseases, the introduction of molecular testing into clinical laboratories has increased our ability to provide novel types of information to health care providers. This course provides an overview of techniques and instrumentation used in molecular testing from the framework of the "molecular pathology/molecular diagnostic toolkit. " the methodologies and technologies that comprise this toolkit were introduced, followed by case discussions to demonstrate how these tools are employed in the molecular testing laboratory. Emphasis were placed on molecular testing in the areas of clinical genetics, solid tumors, hematopatholoy, informatics and infectious diseases. The course itself features 3 1/2 days of intense update and review of molecular diagnostics that is primarily focused on preparation for the molecular genetic pathology (mgp) subspecialty certification exam, as well as other certification exams. Participants have the opportunity to learn directly from recognized experts in molecular pathology, most of whom hold mgp certification. A special feature is an online pre-test, with special test discussion sessions during the course.
