As one of 29 national partners in the library of congress" teaching with primary sources consortium,the barat education foundation through its grant from the library is able to offer numerous resources at no cost to illinois educators to learn about and practice the use of primary sources in classroom instruction. The foundation has been part of this consortium since 2004. In 2016,the foundation was awarded a grant by the library of congress to developa multidisciplinary curriculum called citizen u (registered trademark) focusedon empowering teachers across all disciplines to become agents of civic engagementand civic learning. The foundation of the curriculum of citizen u is the library of congress resources which serve as a connection between civic learning and content learning using primary sources. the foundation developed and administers a program titled our american voice which is a project based learning initiative that links the basics of american history, government and civics with digital age technology and community involvement to educate, engage and empower middle-grade students to be participative citizens in their communities and make reasoned commitments to the core democratic values of the united states . the foundation developed and supports educational programs reflecting the values and traditions of the sacred heart. To achieve this purpose the foundation sponsors scholarships and makes charitable contibutions .
