Bethlehem Apostolic Church was founded by Mr. Kenneth Matthews and his wife. Mr. Matthews is a retired postal worker who is a product of the inner city himself; having been raised in Baltimore, MD. Mr. Matthews was ordained in the ministry in 1979, by the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World; and has more than 30 years of service to youth through the church. The church is located in an area which is surrounded by heavy drug use. The area is multi-cultural; being more than 50% Hispanic and 20% African American. We feel that the schools are overwhelmed and cannot adequately cope with the many problems generated in this environment. Bethlehem Apostolic Church intends to present another option for inner-city youth by allowing them the opportunity to associate with people who have achieved a certain measure of success even though they may have come from the same circumstances. We feel that positive encouragement is essential; followed by improvement in school grades; along with recreational activities to take away some of that idle time.
