Movement building & public awareness - xq held regional workshops with various stakeholders to discuss and plan their reimagined high schools. Xq also regularly convened students to hear what they wanted from their high school (hs) experiences. These conversations gave xq insights to inform future school design, identify ambassadors, and amplify student voices. Through various communications, xq highlighted exemplars in education across the country to connect with people of all ages and backgrounds, and inspire and encourage widespread participation. Xq also renovated a school bus to create a nationwide traveling exhibit. The interactive experience invited visitors to learn about the history of hs and visualize schools of the future. The bus visited 32 states. The tour also focused on collecting, producing, and distributing stories from communities, teams, and students. Xq partnered with publishers to distribute these stories so that a broader audience could be inspired to rethink hs. School design r&d and super schools - xq: the super school project launched as a national open call for teams to submit designs for new or redesigned public high schools. Xq created an extensive set of resources to support participants, including 13 online knowledge modules, each offering research-based best practices in key areas of high school design, and a series of podcasts featuring in-depth conversations with education leaders and innovators. Nearly 10,000 people joined teams and xq received 696 proposals, which were assessed by a diverse panel of judges using a rigorous rubric. Xq more than doubled its commitment, awarding nearly $102 million; $10 million each to 10 teams, and close to $2 million to three additional teams. The cohort is diverse in size, location, and approach, and includes district and charter schools. Each team receives customized, ongoing support from xq that includes evaluation and performance frameworks, self-assessment tools.
