Education
Calgis 2017: baygeo organized the calgis locationcon 2017 conference, combining the annual california gis conference (calgis) with locationcon ? A new locationtech event that targets eclipse foundation members and others who attend foss4gna, foss4g, and locationtech tour events. Calgis locationcon 2017 was a 3-day conference held may 22-24, 2017 at the oakland convention center in downtown oakland, ca for approximately attendees. Calgis locationcon 2017 provided content for and builds bridges between the calgis community who focus on gis best practices in government, non-profit, education and consulting in california, and the locationtech community who develop advanced location aware technologies via collaboration with commercially-friendly open source software. gis education center: the gis education center is a partnership between baygeo and the advanced transportation technologies & energy program at city college of san francisco. Our gis workshops are designed for students to learn and acquire skills on focused gis topics. Our workshops are 9-15 hours in length and taught over three to five weeks. Our students are working professionals, graduate students, and general enthusiasts in search of short, focused, and affordable training which offers more one-on-one support from instructors compared to other instructional formats, such as all-weekend "crash courses". Most of our workshops are small in size, with an average 10-15 students. gis day: gis day is an annual event held in november in locations all over the world. On november 19, 2016, baygeo (in conjunction with partner organizations) held gis day san francisco 2016. There were two events held. First off was an afternoon chat on maps with local geo leaders from 1 to 4:30 pm featuring workshops, talks, and discussions. Then, an evening panel on cutting-edge geo 4 social good was held. This panel included a map gallery along with light food and refreshments. Approximately 100 people attended at least one event.
