Programs

Founded in 1977, WSLB was one of the first domestic violence shelters in California. The original facility — an 11-bed shelter — led the movement to assist battered women and their children. Courageous women, survivors themselves, chose action instead of victimization and created a safe place for women to stay and have the opportunity to make change in their lives. The confidential emergency shelter has grown to a 28-bed facility and now opens its doors to all men, women, and children seeking safety and assistance. The public access Domestic Violence Resource Center (DVRC) offers expanded services for children and adults. The courage and vision of the founders informs the overarching goals that drive all WSLB programming: to facilitate clients' self-sufficiency, empowerment, and well-being; and to prevent the recidivism of domestic violence through community outreach and education. The mission of WSLB is to eliminate domestic violence through compassionate intervention, education and personal empowerment.
