Participatory community development - in the fall of 2016 young nation leveraged it resources to purchase a building slated for demolition. Young nation has a plan for the building to remain and be activated. . After extended and involved planning and development, the new building is open and operational. New dedicated indoor and outdoor spaces for programming and community gatherings are available for use by neighborhood youth and adults. community gatherings - blessing of the lowrideres - young nation hosted the annual event at gerace in action. A memorable mash of of sw detroit culture. Over 150 people attended. Angles night - totether with the ally project over 200 people attended the day long event . Event merges themes of of social justice, civic engagement, mentoring and honoring those who came before us. Mural installations - in 2017 dc2standingrock, a collective of dc-based artists and organizers that traveled around the country to the standing rock reservation in north dakota, visited tap. They created a mural as a testatment to the universal nature of the stugglest in north dakota outreach and partnerships this year young nation has significantly increased our capacity to support programming and partnerships toward the sustainability of the organization as well as cultural community development to build sustainable community in the neighborhood. Increased partnerships have blossomed into a robust programming scheduled where multiple organization, initiative, and individual partners are regularly sharing spaces and running/supporting program collaboratively.
