Programs

For the year ended june 30, 2017, ymc facilitated mentoring programs in partnership with corporate worksites, schools, municipalities, and community agencies throughout los angeles. Over 350 vulnerable youth were provided with a variety of mentoring activities involving caring adults who empowered them with long-term consistent support to guide them toward developing positive characters, good decision-making skills, and enhanced self-esteem. Program partnerships included hbo, warner bros. , paramount pictures, and viacom networks. Community mentoring programs included bloom, and ymap - through our partnership with the lincoln family life center. Also, in ymc's urban oasis film academy (uofa) - 25 youth completed three short films and a screening of the films was held at the lincoln family life center for family, friends and mentors. Ymc's efforts produced the staggering results of a 98% high school graduation rate, with 83% of those going on to enroll in a 2 or 4 year college. In addition, teen pregnancy among ymc youth was at 2% vs. The cdc estimate of 34% for the same demographic in la county. Ymc's mentoring model has garnered interest from around the globe. Recent delegates from armenia, afghanistan, brazil and iraq added to the long list of international visitors that have come to learn about the ymc model. Past visitors include china, jamaica, peru and singapore, where the model continues to be implemented.
