Mission

Bay area cancer connections ("bcc") provides free information and support for those facing breast cancer and ovarian cancer, including individual and group emotional support, practical help, education on breast health and breast cancer issues, and special events. The organization has a specialized library and a center that connects clients with the people and resources at bcc and out in the community that will help them. The organization also provides free screening and diagnostic services for those at-risk for breast cancer or who are medically underserved.

Programs

The gabriella patser program - bcc partners with local medical facilities and medical offices to provide screening and diagnostic services free of charge to women and men who are at-risk for breast cancer. The program serves those under 40 years of age who are not eligible for the state program (for 40 and over). Clients are low-income and uninsured. The program provides the medical services, such as mammograms, ultrasounds, and biopsies, as well as health education, navigation through the health system, interpreting services, and transportation assistance. The program has served approximately 378 clients. support programs - bcc provides emotional support to clients throughout the cancer process. This includes drop-in groups such as a couples support, dcis group, guided imagery, healing drum, metastatic breast cancer support, mindfulness meditation, newly diagnosed support, recovery & renewal program (for those post-treatment), and a writing workshop. It also includes support activities and events such as the comfort tote program, survivorship & advocacy activities, and the annual celebration & remembrance event. breast cancer conference - an annual day-long conference provides cutting edge information on medical and support topics related to breast cancer. Renowned speakers offer presentations, q&a sessions, participants share information amongst each other and a resource fair exposes participants to a variety of helpful resources throughout the bay area. The conference brings together approximately 300 attendees, including patients, survivors, medical professionals, therapists, to network, share knowledge and create hope.
