Funding provided by the wisconsin historical foundation to the wisconsin historical society supports all areas of the society including historic sites and museums, its library and archives, public history and historic preservation, and the wisconsin historical society press. Through those program areas the society was able to put on over 400 statewide programs and host thousands of visitors to the 11 historic sites and museums located across the state. Each year the society impacts over 3 million users between the sites, library, website, and archives. the wisconsin historical foundation is in very early phases of a campaign to build a new wisconsin history museum. In 2017, at the request of the wisconsin historical society's board of curators, the wisconsin historical foundation's governing body approved a motion to begin a capital campaign to raise $50 million for the new museum project. in 2017 the wisconsin historical foundation received the first contributions for a capital campaign at old world wisconsin. The campaign is focused on creating a new entry experience at old world wisconsin. The total campaign goal is $6. 7 million. Once complete the new entry experience will feature modern guest amenities, stem learning area, and heritage brewery.
