The society's mission is: (1) to collect and preserve the evidence of the history of central windsor county, with particular attention to woodstock, vermont and the surrounding communities and (2) to provide leadership in local history education and research.

The dana house museum and research library interpret the history of woodstock, vermont and the surrounding area. Housed in a historic federal style house that was built in 1807, the museum's collection includes: antique furniture, fine art, clothing, textiles, silver, ceramics, photographs and early american toys. The museum is open to the public on a seasonal basis. The research library is open to the public year round. To further promote history education, the organization offers a variety of programs including: history camps for children, a monthly lecture series, historic reenactments and local history publications.
