Youth orchestras of lubbock (yol) is organized for charitable and educational purposes including distributions to organizations that qualify as exempt under irc section 501(c)(3). The educational purpose includes providing an exceptional music education experience to the members of the orchestras; providing artistic performances that enrich the lives of developing musicians, our community, and our region; and working cooperatively with public and private schools, and independent music teachers in a continuing effort to provide musical development for youth.

In the fall of 2016, yol had 7 full rehearsals (two of which included 2. 5 hour musical learning sectional blocks with coaches leading the sections) and a two-day workshop. The three youth orchestras were made up of 138 students of varying levels and they performed a free concert for the community on october 9, 2016. yol performed a concert for broadcast in october 2016. The concert was performed on one rehearsal/taping date, and the program was broadcast in december on two separate television stations for the community. yol continued the chamber music program with a full clinic of yol percussion, with chamber performance given on april 30, 2017 in midland, texas. the prelude strings orchestra performed for the community in three yol music ambassador events for the public - a reception, a music club, and a holiday exhibit. Yol also participated with area schools in the mark wood electrify your strings event at the south plains fair grounds. in the spring of 2017, the yol had 10 full rehearsals (two of which included a 2. 5 hour musical learning sectional with coaches leading the sections). The three orchestras contained 132 students of varying ability and they performed a concert for the community free of charge on march 5, 2017.
