Zero1: the art & technology network (zero1) is where art meets technology to shape the future.
Arts & Culture
American arts incubator is an international creative exchange program developed by zero1 in partnership with the u. S. Department of states bureau of educational and cultural affairs (eca). The program sends american artists abroad to lead innovative new media art workshops for youth, women, people with disabilities, and underserved populations, then collaborate with them to develop community-based public art and technology projects that instigate dialogue, build communities, bolster local economies, and further social innovation. Throughout the 2017 program dates, the five selected u. S. Artists worked with local arts, cultural, and educational partners to host workshop programs focused on youth and underserved populations that would inspire creative ideas for community progress. American arts incubator engaged a total of 5964 participants, including 123 workshops participants and attendees to public events, including artist presentations, artist-led community conversations, panel reviews, and final exhibitions of program outputs. In addition, american arts incubator incorporated a unique small grant funding process that supported 20 local project teams to develop public art projects addressing the social challenge predetermined by the respective u. S. Embassy. American arts incubator creates opportunities for innovation, social entrepreneurship, and civic engagement by translating creative practices into community-driven artworks and ongoing arts practice. Zero1 partnered with the paseo prototyping festival to produce a series of creative interventions during the festival that explore civic innovation using the combined disciplines of art, science, and technology, which engaged over 400 artists, community members, students, and thought leaders. The five interventions included: a public sculpture that served as an augmented reality portal into the bay area housing crisis; a panel discussion on international community projects that apply art, science, and technology to civic challenges; diy holograms that increased lgbtq visibility and further equality; an arts incubator workshop on cross-sector collaboration for social impact with 13 participants; and site-specific projection mapping at the festival that addressed the topic of social inclusion.
