Abt performing arts association, inc. (abt) enriches lives through the power of the performing arts by producing live theatre and other high quality entertainment. Live theatre includes performances of broadway musicals, performances targeted toward children, and the academy for young performers which introduces, instills and inspires young people to develop an appreciation for the performing arts through education and exploration of theatre skills. During 2016, 85,500 patrons attended 25 different musicals, concerts and special events offered at arizona broadway theatre and an offsite location. These performances included 8 musicals on the main stage, 16 concerts and special events at abt and 1 musical at the herberger theater center. In addition, the theatre's patrons included 8,750 children and their parents or guardians who attended theatre for young audiences (tya) performances: live theatre, performed by professional actors, targeted toward children to help them develop an appreciation for the performing arts. The shows comprising the 2016 tya season were the lion, the witch and the wardrobe; alexander and the terrible, horrible, no-good, very bad day; pinkalicious; and a charlie brown christmas. In addition, during 2016, 155 youth attended seven academy for young performers camp sessions. At the end of each camp, the attendees had the thrill of a lifetime as they took center stage to showcase their talents to over 700 family and friends.
