Programs

Alabama makers:during the tourism department's year of alabama makers, the alabama folklife association (afa) obtained grant funds and in-kind contributions to support various expos at festivals and farmer's markets in order to showcase visual and performing, folk and traditional artists. research/fieldwork:afa's research and fieldwork project for 2016-2017 also contributed to alabama makers. Two professional documented artists of varous musical genres for a period of one year. Through fieldwork techniques, primarily audio visual recordings, numerous master artists who are currently from alabama were documented. The persons doing fieldwork contributed to the understanding of various musical genres in the state of alabama and the legacies of many musicians and singers. common threads: sewing our stories is a project that began in 2014. Afa provides workshops, lectures, tours and historic site visits in various locations around the state. These are dedicated to alabama's quilt making heritage and traditions. This program honors alabama's six female quilters who are national endowment for the arts, national heritage fellows.
