Programs

The zoo and museum cares for more than 1,000 live, endangered and exotic animals; welcomed nearly 300,000 visitors in the current year, and educated around 40,000 children through on-site and outreach education. The zoo also maintains a rare natural history collection of 150 mounted animals,including 38 vanishing species, in the museum. In addition to recreation, optimal animal care and education, the zoo's mission includes global conservation through breeding and care of endangered species, including participation in 24 species survival plans. The zoo's animals include snow leopards, tigers, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, and multiple primate species. The society occupies, without charge, the city of sioux falls' zoo and museum facilities.
